Features And Benefits

Dragon Mania Legends features over 100 different species of dragons and an abundance of side missions for players to tackle. It's combat gameplay is turn based, and consist of putting your trained dragons against vicious Vikings. One of the features players are sure to love about Dragon Mania is the fact that it provides an extensive amount of guidance as you go along. As players progress and learn about various features of the game, a wide array of different characters provide detailed information to help players understand how to complete various tasks and create new buildings. The missions and tasks that players complete are extremely user-friendly. The same can be said about the user interface of the app. By tapping the control button on the left corner of the screen, players can unravel the list of tasks and missions that they need to complete. Each time a player completes a task, they are rewarded with various in-game items such as gems, food and gold. New missions and tasks have an exclamation mark which flashes until they're completed.

The game is primarily a city building game. Players can expect to spend a decent amount of time building various structures such as farms which are essentially when it comes to providing food to your dragons or dragon habitats that give you the ability to breed new dragons. As is the case with most free to play titles, the amount of actions a player can conduct is limited to the amount of in-game gold that they possess. Gold is used to harvest food, renovate old buildings, create new structures and train dragons. Players can earn gold through combat or they can purchase a gold pack from the game's built-in store. One of the things that city building game fans are sure to love is the fact that while the app provides in-app purchases, it isn't particularly difficult to acquire gems and gold by completing various tasks and missions.

When it comes to the actual gameplay, it can be best described as being averagely paced. Players can pick and choose their own missions to their liking without having to worry about a time limit or level restriction. However, some task do require a certain amount of time to complete, such as building structures. When it comes to combat, players need energy units in order to battle. Battles within the game are turn-based and consist of using three of your favorite dragons to fight against a variety of different Vikings. Users can access the battle mode of the app, by choosing a mission from their task list, or by roaming the islands as to which they can pick various battles. Once a battle has been completed, players are given a rating from 1 - 3 stars. Most dragons specialize in a specific element: wind, earth, fire, etc. Some of the rarest dragons in the game are categorized as being dual elemental dragons. As players progress, they will eventually unlock the ability to breed boss dragons, which enables them to train other dragons as well as to produce more cold.

When it comes to the city building feature of the game, players have to constantly manage and maintain their Kingdom. For instance, players need to ensure that farms are properly maintained and that they have a steady supply of food which is essential when it comes to leveling up your dragon. All structures within the game can be upgraded to expedite the process of gathering resources and breeding/training your dragon. Again, each mission and task takes time. The more complex the task, the more time it will require to complete. While planting one of the most basic crops in the game takes 30 seconds, upgrading your dragon habitat may take up to 15 minutes. Fortunately, players can spend some gems to instantly complete each mission or task.

Pros

  • Events - Many players have regarded it as being 6 games in one because of the multitude of different game modes that the game provides. Players can partake in an Arena Battle, tackle missions from the Campaign Map, participate in Clan Events, climb the rank in the Enchantment League, acquire loot from the Dungeon or acquire more dragons via Dragon Breeding. Additionally, players have also praised the developers for continuously releasing castle and calendar events which give players the opportunity to drastically increase the strength of their dragons and acquire lucrative prizes.
  • Fair Free-To-Play System - Even though the game is free-to-play and features in-app purchases, players can reasonably compete with other players who invest in the in-game shop. Gold, gems and energy units can all be purchased. But, gold can be earned from battles, energy replenishes by 1 unit every 15 minutes, and gems can be gained from completing missions.

Cons

  • Slower Progression At Higher Levels - As players progress and build increasingly complex structures and sophisticated dragons, the waiting times for dragon hatching and building structures increases to the point where players have to wait hours to build a single structure. While this may not seem like an issue, players are limited to the amount of actions that they can conduct such as being limited to building a maximum of two structures simultaneously.
  • Spammy Main Menu - The game's main menu is crowded to say the least. The problem is made even worse by the continuous rotation of offers which take up a significant portion of screen space.

Conclusion

At the end of the day, most players are drawn towards Dragon Mania Legends because of the opportunity to collect and breed different dragons. Fortunately, a vast majority of the dragons in the game can be bred instead of purchased. The game is a good distraction for individuals who have ever fantasizes about the idea of breeding their own dragon.
