Peacock does have a bit of ground to cover. The service is going up against some formidable competition like Disney Plus, HBO Max, Netflix, Hulu, and Prime Video. But unlike many of the others, Peacock does have a free tier that offers impressive programming.

Another issue that may have put Peacock behind the eight ball is the COVID-19. NBC Universal had some really grand plans that had to be put on the back burner. the app is still holding its own.

Since its release, Peacock has about 22 million signups. Impressive considering the setbacks. The good thing is, you get an opportunity to try it out for yourself for a while.

While Peacock has a free tier, you will only have access to certain movies and shows. If you want more, you will need to sign up for one of the two pay tiers. The first one is all-exclusive $5 per month with advertising. If you don't want ads, try out the full-access $10 per month tier. With both, you get over 20,000 of programming. Seven-day trials are also available.

Peacock is supported on the following platforms:

  • Apple iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Apple TV and Apple 4K
  • Google devices like Android phones, tables, Chromecast, and built-in Chromecast
  • Xbox One
  • Sony PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4
  • Visio Smartcast
  • LG Smart TV
  • Roku

Amazon Fire is not compatible with the Peacock app. Additional devices that support Peacock can be found on the support page.

Peacock also has the following product features:

  • Ability to stream three devices
  • Registering accounts to devices is not required
  • Parental controls are PIN managed
  • English only interface
  • Mobile downloads available

For now, Peacock's programming will continue to be shown on Hulu. NBCUniversal owner has been in a partnership with Hulu, however, the parent company, Comcast, entered a new deal with Disney. By 2022, most of NBCUniversal's content will be pulled from Hulu.

Is Peacock worth the price of a $5 or $10 monthly rate? Most people who like the NBC-style format say it is. There are pros and cons with Peacock:

Pros:

The different tiers that allow either free programming or premium programming options. Peacock also offers a lot of original programming that transcends all tastes and genres such as reboots of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air and Battlestar Gallactica, original comedy highlights, and unscripted shows.

Cons:

Some users report the tiers as being a bit confusing. Others are disappointed that some content won't be available until April.

Overall, Peacock seems to be worth the money. The sheer amount of programming and flexibility is enough to go for a trial run.
